James Theophilus Lewis Sr. was the son of Nathaniel Lewis and Elvira Helton. James was born August 9, 1736 in Wales, United Kingdom, and died September 1, 1825 in Cutshin, Leslie County, Kentucky. He married first Elvira Griffin Bef. 1771 in Perry County, Kentucky. He married second Winnetrey Henson Bet. 1774 - 1780 in Wilkes County, North Carolina. James Theophilus Lewis Sr. is buried in the John Lewis C Cemetery, Cutshin Rd, Leslie County Kentucky. He served in the North Carolina Militia during the Revolutionary War and brought his family to Kentucky in 1810.
