Ruth Ann Engel, 93, a resident of Caring Hands Health Care Center, Peru, passed away at 4:35 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, 2006 at that facility following an extended illness.
She was born Aug. 2, 1913 in Westfield to Herschel and Mable (Ballard) Dove. She married Delbert C. Engel June 22, 1946 in Peru, and he preceded her in death Nov. 24, 1984.
Engel graduated from Westfield High School in 1931, and was the oldest living graduate of that school. She also graduated from Central Business College in Indianapolis in 1932 before working in the main offices of Indiana Condensed Milk Co. in downtown Indianapolis. In addition, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Carson D. Engel and wife Verba, rural Amboy; a daughter, Beverly Ann Kyer and husband John, Parker, Colo.; six grandchildren, Chadd D. Engel and wife Marci, Avon, C. Daniel and Craig D. Engel, both of Amboy, Denise Ann (Kyer) Alvarez and husband Abel, New Mexico, Melissa Ann (Kyer) Moore and husband Mike, Denver, Colo., and Deborah Ann (Kyer) Melzer and husband Tim, San Jose, Calif.; five great-grandchildren, Corynn, Grace and Ainsley Engel, and Jessica and David Alvarez; and two nephews, Kent E. Dove, Bloomington, and Kurt A. Dove, Kokomo.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Allen Funeral Home, Bunker Hill, with Pastor John O'Brien officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
