JESSE LORENZA PARRISH
Jesse Lorenza Parrish, son of the late James M. and Mary Jane (Billups) Parrish, was born in Knox County, Missouri on July 21, 1874, and passed away at Mercy Hospital in Burlington, Iowa, Sept. 2, 1950, at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 12 days.
A member of the Baptist faith, Mr. Parrish spent his early days in Missouri. On July 11, 1898, he was married to Rosie Billups, to whom five children were born- two daughters, Mrs. Hazel McDavid and Mrs. Leta Pullen, both of Oquawka, Illinois; and three sons, Lloyd and Vanola, also of Oquawka, Illinois, and Jesse of Monmouth, Illinois. There are ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Parrish passed away in October, 1909, when the children were small. It will always be remembered the work and effort with which Mr. Parrish made possible for all the children to be together.
In 1925, after the married children began to make Illinois their home, he moved to Illinois to be near them.
In 1931 he was married to Mrs. Mary Pullen, who preceded him in death as did his parents, four sisters, three brothers and one grandson. Two sisters, Mrs. Alice Peterson of Gorin, and Mrs. Betha Glasgow of Arbela, and three brothers, Walter of LaHarpe, Illinois, Millard of Ashland, Kansas, and Thomas of Burlington, Iowa, along with several nieces and nephews, survive.
Mr. Parrish will be greatly missed by his loved ones and all who knew him for the man he was- "a man who devoted his entire life to his family and friends as well".
Funeral services were held at the Gorin Baptist Church, Monday, Sept. 4, 1950. Burial was made in the Pleasant Grove Cemetey in Gorin.
