Wahneta (Pat) Boatwright, 89, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2006. She was born in Des Moines on August 5, 1917 to Leo Cross and Ferle Harlan Cross. Pat was a proud North High Polar Bear from the class of 1936. She married Merle Boatwright on January 30, 1941 and they shared 65 happy years together. She worked at Kresge's downtown, the Ankeny Ordnance Plant, the Empire State Bldg. in NYC and retired from Sears and Roebuck in 1981. Pat was a great mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to many. She was a championship bowler, loved to travel and enjoyed word puzzles. She is survived by husband, Merle; sons, Ken (Jo) Boatwright and Rick (Shelly) Boatwright; grandchildren, Bryan, Kathleen, Colin and Lisa; great-grandson, Jared; sister, Mary Jane Jones of Florida and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Bruce and by her sister, Bertie Argo. Visitation is Thursday, September 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Merle Hay Funeral Home. Services are Friday, September 8, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at Chapel Hill Gardens. Memorials may be made to North High Alumni Association or Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
