When her husband volunteered in the Army Air Corps in 1943 and became a career officer, she followed him around the world.
She taught school, from grades 1 to 10, for twenty years, did secretarial work at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, AK and McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey. She worked for the Civil Service and the Internal Revenue Service.
She studied piano and organ and attended Le Cordon Bleu Cooking school in Paris, France.
