Esther Doris Hockel was the youngest of nine children born to Andrew and Gena (Sponevik) Hockel. Born on April 3, 1926 on her home farm outside of Odin, Minnesota. She went to country school up until eighth grade and then to high school in Windom, Minnesota where she graduated in 1944. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church near Odin Minnesota.

She moved to California where she met Raymond Richard Abramson and married on January 14, 1955. They raised three children together, Richard (born Dec 16, 1955), Scott (born April 25, 1958) and Gena (born Feb 14, 1963). They moved back to Minnesota in 1968 and lived in St Louis Park, Minnesota. Esther moved to Brooklyn Center after retirement and then to Fairfax, Virginia in July 2003.

Esther worked as a secretary for Hennepin County in the child welfare office for 16 years. She also did a lot of volunteering through her church. She volunteered at a clothes closet as well as at a women's correctional facility in Hennepin County. She was always very involved with her church.

She is preceded in death by her eight siblings (Carrie, Cecile, Thena, Agnes, Ben, Cap, Tilmer, Art) and by her son Scott and other relatives.

She is survived by her son Richard and his wife Esther of Colorado Springs, Colorado, her daughter Gena and her husband John Norquist of Fairfax, Virginia and four grandchildren Ashley and Amanda Abramson, David and Kari Norquist and other relatives.
