Funeral services for J.B. Bernard, age 60, of 416 San Diego St., Palestine, Texas, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Hassell & Foster Funeral Home chapel, with Dan Manuel officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Park. Mr. Bernard died this morning, September 8, 1982, in Anderson County Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born March 26, 1922 at Bois D'Arc, Texas, the son of the late John Birrell Bernard and Maude Salome (Gray) Bernard. A resident of Palestine most of his life, he was a member of the Crockett Road Church of Christ. He and Margie Virginia Roy married in Palestine on March 18, 1941. At that time he worked with his father in the carpentry trade. After serving in the Army in WWII, Mr. Bernard went to work for Missouri Pacific Railroad and retired as a foreman in the railroad shops. Mr. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Stephen; and a sister, Nadine Boatwright. Survivors include his wife, Margie Bernard of Palestine; a son, Michael G. Bernard and wife Mary of Bedford; a daughter, Paula Trigg and husband Danny of Fairfield; a sister, Dixie Copeland and husband, Ken of Amelia, LA; and five granddaughters, Kathryn and Julie Trigg, and Kelly, Amy, and Shannon Bernard. Pallbearers will be Bill Douglas, J. Robert Wylie, Leland Reinhard, James Mosley, Ira Goodin, and Harold Quick. The family requests that memorials go to the American Diabetes Association.
