Mrs. Everene Leola Stringer, 83, of Corpus Christi, Texas, died the morning of August 22, 2006 of heart failure. She had recently had a hip replacement and was continuing her rehabilitation when she suffered heart failure.

Everene was born July 12, 1923 at Breckenridge, Stephens County, Texas to John and Priscilla Terry. She went to David Hirsch Elementary, Northside Junior High and Corpus Christi High School. Then the family moved to Alice, Texas and she graduated from William Adams High School.

The family moved back to Corpus Christi, where she met and married Jack D. Stringer on April 25, 1943. They lived most of their marriage in Corpus Christi and raised three children.

Jack preceded her in death on July 10, 1989. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church for many, many years. She gave of her time and talents continuously, whether it was helping in the kitchen for church dinners, Vacation Bible School, publishing a Wesley Cookbook, or helping with the Wesley garage sale. She was always ready to help.

Surviving are the following: daughters Connie (Bill) Young of Corpus Christi, Texas, Lois (Bill) Hornbuckle III of Katy, Texas; a son, Dale Stringer Jr. of Corpus Christi, Texas; grandchildren Erin (Paul) Foley and Ashley Young both of Dallas, Texas, Will Hornbuckle IV, Wesley Hornbuckle and Warren Hornbuckle all of Katy, Texas, and two great-grandchildren Emerson and Eleanor Foley, brother-in-law Wesley Stringer and a sister Lorine Stanford. Pallbearers for the service are Will, Wesley and Warren Hornbuckle, Paul Foley, Leroy Steinocher and Todd Landsford.

Visitation was held at Cage Mills Funeral Home on Aug. 24, 2006. The funeral was held Aug. 25, 2006 at Wesley United Methodist Church. Interment followed at Memory Gardens.
