Herbert and Stella were married at the home of her parents, Mr. &Mrs. Jasper & Emma (Hulce) Davis, in Hiawatha, Kans. on Feb 14, 1905. Note also that Herbert was born on Feb 14. (Valentines Day)
    The couple had nine children, *all girls*! Their 7th child, Bonnie, died at 6 months of age. The other eight sisters grew to adults, and only one of those, Marcella, did not marry.

CHAFFEE -Funeral of Herbert Chaffee, 84, of 521 Eldon Dr., who died Tuesday, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Umbergers, the Rev. Carl Burkhardt officiating. Mrs. Charles Hoffman, organist. Lincoln Memorial Park. Survivors: wife, Estella; daughters, Mrs. Marian Konrack[sic], Mrs. Alberta Geistlinger, Mrs. Vivian Quinn, Miss Marcella Chaffee, all of Lincoln; Mrs. Leo Cain of Overland Park, Kan., Mrs. Walter Schrader of Hiawatha, Kan., Mrs. Hap Piper of Sheridan, Ia., and Mrs. Harold McCulley of Alamogordo, N.M.; brother, Wallace of Hamlin, Kan.; 21 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Lincoln Memorial Park. Pallbearers: John Quinn, Norman Clark, Harrell Piper Jr., Michael Piper, and Richard and Robert Schrader.
