He was a school teacher who taught horticulture, and he helped develop the Future Farmers of America program at Breckinridge County High School (Kentucky) and Corydon Central High School (Indiana). During his tenure, the Breckinridge County FFA was recognized as one of the top six FFA programs in the United States. In the summer of 2006, he learned that he had a brain tumor. He traveled to Little Rock, Arkansas, for surgery. Although the surgery was successful, he developed a fungal infection in his lungs and died a few days afterward. He was the husband of the former Linda Faye Miller and was the father of Sara Thomas and Christopher.
