Mellette - Lorna Mae (Thomas) Borge, 74, of Mellette, S.D., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen, S.D., surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 19, 2006, at the Brentford Congregational United Church of Christ, Brentford, S.D., with Rev. Jon Damaska officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m., Friday, at Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen, with a public prayer service being held at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Lorna Mae Thomas was born May 27, 1932, to Claude and Florence (Fey) Thomas on a farm near Turton, S.D. She was baptized and confirmed in the Brentford U.C.C. Church.

Lorna attended a country school for her first few years and graduated from Brentford High School in 1950. She attended Northern State Teacher's College and then taught at country schools near Willow Lake, S.D., and Stratford, S.D.

She married Donald E. Borge on April 17, 1953. Don and Lorna raised their children on the family farm near Mellette, S.D.

Lorna was a 50-year member of the United Church of Christ in Brentford. She also belonged to the Brentford Women's Fellowship, Northwest Spink County Senior Citizens, two bridge clubs, the extension club and was a 4-H leader for many years. She enjoyed bowling and served as the league secretary for many years. Lorna spent most of her time spoiling all of her grandchildren and attending their athletic events.

Grateful for sharing her life are her husband, Don; children, Wayne (Betty) Borge of Mellette, S.D., Diane (Mark) Luitjens of Aberdeen, S.D., Linda (Murhl Fredrikson) Borge of Sioux Falls, S.D., Shelly Borge of Mellette, S.D., and Cindy (Dan) Quam of Mina, S.D.; her grandchildren, Karla Borge, Eric (Amber) Borge, Cameron Luitjens, Matthew Luitjens, Amber (Chris Knight) Luitjens, Stephanie Mastel, Kirstin Borge, Jennifer Grandpre and Lisa Grandpre; her sisters, Bonnie (Alan) Clemensen and Claudia (Norman) Lee; her sisters-in-law, Barb Thomas and Joanne (Jerry) O'Neill; her brother-in-law, Jim Parker and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, James Thomas and her sister, Rosemary Parker.

Casket bearers will be Mark Luitjens, Murhl Fredrikson, Dan Quam, Eric Borge, Cameron Luitjens and Matt Luitjens. Honorary casket bearers will be all of Lorna's granddaughters.
