On May 30th, 1918, Ausonia, on a voyage from Montreal to Avonmouth with general cargo, was sunk by the German submarine U-62 (Ernst Hashagen), 620 miles WxS3/4S
from Fastnet. 44 persons were lost."

" The 96 survivors of SS AUSONIA, including one female (Stewardess Theresa Edgar), were picked up on 8th June by HMS ZINNIA and landed at Bearhaven, Co. Cork. One of the survivors, 17-year-old Scullion, Matthew Robinson, badly injured in the attack died two days after rescue in a Liverpool hospital."
