Lillian Ovaughn Akin, 73, of Crossett died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at her residence. Born at home six miles north of El Dorado on June 24, 1929, to Robert Lee and Freda Opal Dumas Bates, she worked for Woolworth and Coca-Cola while living in El Dorado. She moved to Crossett in 1959 where she painted, hung wallpaper, laid tile and cleaned houses. She was a homemaker and a member of Pine Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Tom Akin; one daughter, Kay Sedberry of Monroe, LA; three sons, Daniel Thomas Akin and Fred Brian Akin, both of Crossett, and Benny Lane Akin of Algonquin, IL; one sister, Opal Clawson of Pearland, TX; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 5, at 10 a.m. at Pine Street Church of Christ with Jurd Brantley and Larry Culbreath officiating. Burial was at Sycamore Grove Cemetery in El Dorado under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett. Pallbearers were Joe Friend, Ron Hudaba, Andy Shaw, Jerry Terrell, Troy Wisecarver and Leo Wright. Memorials may be made to the Paragould Children's Home, P.O. Box 460, Paragould, AR 72451-9935
