" SS Laertes, built by ........ was a British steamer of 4541 tons.
On August 1st, 1917, Laertes, on a voyage from Southampton to Montreal in ballast, was sunk by the German submarine UB-31 (Thomas Bieber), 1.25 miles SSW of Prawle Point.
14 persons were lost."
