Mrs. Leafy Jane Austin, 67, wife of Maynard P. Austin of Rossville, who was injured in an automobile accident near here on Jan. 5, died in St. Elizabeth hospital, Lafayette, at 10 p.m. Tuesday. Her death was unexpected. Mrs. Austin had been improving and was about to be released from the hospital when she suffered a blood clot which resulted in death. She had planned to return home in another day or two.

Mrs. Austin was riding with her husband when their automobile skidded off wet Ind. 26 and into a ditch on the south side of the highway. She suffered internal injuries, a fractured left knee and lacerations. Her husband received first aid for a knee injury and was dismissed from the hospital. Mr. Austin, a retired farmer, is 70.

Dr. Robert E. Williams, Tippecanoe county coroner, said Wednesday that he would perform an autopsy to determine the cause of Mrs. Austin's death.

Born in Jasper County, Mrs. Austin had lived in the Rossville community since 1919. The couple formerly lived on a farm near here before moving to Rossville. They were married in 1917. She was a member of the Middlefork Old Order German Baptist Church.

Surviving with the husband are three sons, Paul of Flora, John of Rossville R. 1 and Joseph of North Manchester R. 1; four sisters, Miss Leona Miller of Menomonie, Wis., Mrs. Pearl Hawkins of Downing, Wis., and Mrs.of Homestead, Fla., and Paul Miller in Washington state. Funeral was held at the Middlefork Old German Baptist Church and burial in the church cemetery.
