Funeral Rites Planned for Mrs. Nickles
Franklin - Funeral services will be held at 1pm Friday in the Gabrys Brothers Funeral Home for Mrs. Stella G. Nickles, 87, of 227 Seneca St., Oil City, who died at 6 pm Tuesday in Franklin Hospital. The widow of George Nickles, she and her husband owned and operated the Drake Cigar Store in the Drake Theater Building in Oil City from 1931 to 1946. Mrs. Nickles had been in failing health for the past several months. She went to Grandview Extendicare in Franklin to live December 15 and was admitted to Franklin Hospital January 30. Rev. Timothy E. Daris of Farrell will officiate. Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery, Oil City. Mrs. Nickles was born December 12, 1887, in Crysafa - Laconia, Greece, a daughter of John and Amanda Vournake Russ. She was married to George Nickles in 1904 and came to the United States that same year, settling in Olean, N.Y. Mr. and Mrs. Nickles moved to Oil City in the early 1920's. Mr. Nickles died April 6, 1946. Mrs. Nickles was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church in Farrell. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A son, John, is deceased along with three brothers, Nick, Steve and George Russ. Friends may call any time today at the funeral home.
