He was a son of Albert E. and Ida (Hawkinson) Bartz. He was a member of Company A of the 192nd Tank Batallion of the United States Army. This unit is refered to as "The Janesville 99". His unit arrived in the Philippine Islands in November of 1941. They were attacked by the Japanese Forces beginning in December 1941. He was wounded in action and evacuated to an Australian hospital. He returned to service in the South Pacific and was wounded a second time. The rest of his unit was held as prisoners of war during WWII. He was discharged January 16, 1945 as a captain. On September 5, 1947 he married Jeanette Worthington in Janesville. He worked at the General Motors Corporation in Janesville for over 25 years, retiring in 1970. He was survived by his wife; three brothers; and four sisters. Albert's brother Robert was also a member of "The Janesville 99".
