John W. Dillinger Sr., John's father, sitting on plow handles on the family farm north of Mooresville, Indiana while talking with newsmen on April 21, 1934. He said the last time he saw his son was on the night of April 8. Later that month, the elder Dillinger and members of his family, saying they needed the money, kicked off a vaudeville tour in Indianapolis. The elder Dillinger toured the country with carnival companies lecturing on the subject, "Crime Does Not Pay," using his son as an example. They also appeared at the Chicago World's Fair.
