Civil War Veteran. Ingersoll was the 1st Sergeant of Company I, 140th New York Infantry Regiment. The 140th was mustered into service on September 13, 1862 in Rochester NY. The 140th participated in some of the bloodiest battles of the war: Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Mine Run, Wilderness, Spottsylvania Court House and Cold Harbor. The 140th was present at Appomattox Court House during the surrender. Mustered out of service on June 13, 1865. During the war the 140th had over 300 casualties.
