Born August 4, 1939 in Texas County near Hooker, she was the daughter of Jacob R. and Olga B. Friesen Balzer. She attended Adams Schools, graduating from Adams High School. Having her mother as one of the graduating seniors of her class was a highlight of her high school graduation day.
She attended Tabor College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and a minnor in history.
Her teaching career began at Lustre Bible Academy in Lustre, Mont. where she taught for three years. She taught at Larned High School in Larned, Kansas for 34 years, retiring in August, 1999.
A member of Adams Mennonite Brethren Church, she was also a baseball enthusiast; keeping score for high school sports and sponsoring the cheerleaders at Larned High School.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her infant brother, Donald Dean Balzer.
Survivors include her four brothers, Joelle and Josephine Balzer of Prairebille, LA, Ronald and Hijuana Balzer of Broken Arrow, Howard Balzer of Buhler, Kansas, and Ted and Janet Balzer of McPherson, KS; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 20 at the Mennonite Brethren Church in Adams with Rev. Frank Huebert of Fairview officiating.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 21 at the Larned United Methodist Church in Larned, KS with Rev. Charles Grant officiating.
