Peters Funeral Home will conduct a Graveside service for Lillie Mae Watts on Thursday, January 23, 2003, at 2 p.m., at Shafter Memorial Park. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 22, from 3 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, January 23, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Lillie was born March 29, 1918, to Elijah and Dora Mae Banks, in Soper, Oklahoma. She moved to Shafter in 1944 and was a member of the Church of God Church in Smiths Corner. Lillie was a Born Again Christian who loved the Lord with all her heart. She was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed working with her hands. She liked crocheting, quilting, painting ceramics and pillowcases. She lived her life for her children and grandchildren. She lived a long happy life and was able to meet her great-great-grandchild; during her lifetime she witnessed 5 generations.
Lillie was preceded in death by her husbands, T.R. Battiest and Jess Watts; her parents, Elijah and Dora Mae Banks; sister, Lu Ellen Rice; brother-in-law, G.B. Rice; brother, Monroe Fredrick Banks. Lillie is survived by daughters, Sue Battiest and husband, Sonny Mahan of Bakersfield, Sheila and husband, Ron Smith of Hayward, CA; nephew, Rodney Rice of Lucerne, CA; 4 grandchildren, Jayleen Cocilovo, Peggy Brock, Layne and wife, Mona Allen, Abraham Smith; 4 great-grandchildren, Megan and husband, Felix Daniel, Britani Sons, Ashley and Broc Allen; and 1 great-great-grandchild, Faith Daniel.
