Dr Jim Lewis was an outstanding baseball pitcher for Gastonia High School and American Legion Post 23 before being drafted in 1942 for service in Europe during WW2. After the war, he went to Appalachain State for a year before transferring to the University of North Carolina. He graduated in the first Dental class at UNC in 1954. He married Evelyn Lytton Lewis and began practicing Dentistry in Gastonia. A Dentist for over 30 years, he was a life-long member of Lutheran Chapel. His 1st son, James Boyd Lewis Jr. was born with pneumonia and died 3 days later. The infant is buried at Hollywood Cemetery in Gastonia, NC.
