Polly Dowell Coffey was the wife of Rev. Reuben Coffey and the mother of twelve children: Martin, Emily, Albert, Cornelius, Malena, Luther, Rufus, Miriam, Shelton, Judson, Wilkerson, who died young, and one child who died shortly after birth and before being named. In 1832, Reuben and Polly and their ten surviving children moved from North Carolina to Indiana by covered wagon. For the remainder of their lives they lived in Owen County, Indiana.
