He was residing in Plimouth, Ma as early as 1643 per [NEFp.148]
1660: "Planter" when bought 25 acres & house at Mannomett Ponds July 1660;
1660: "Cooper" when sold it the following Mar 20 1660/1 (Note: he repurchased it a month later (Oct 15 1661 court case) [MD(11:170-172)] [Ply Col Deeds 2:2:36; 2:2:56; 4:389; 11:171; 14:235; 15:243-4].
1673: the town found the land to be "common" and that Eddy had no right to sell it to Rider. So they granted it to Samuel Rider [Ply.Town.Recs(1:78)]
George Bowman (1909 editor of The Mayflower Descendant[MD]) believes that this Samuel Rider (c.1632) is the Samuel who married Lydia Tilden (b.1658) NOT his son, Samuel (b.1657); as otherwise believed (see notes under Lydia Tilden).
If Samuel, husband of Lydia, is not the son of Sarah (Bartlett) but her widower, none of Lydia's descendants are descended from Richard Warren of the Mayflower through Sarah Bartlett, dau. of Mary Warren. AND it is through HER SON WILLIAM that the Rider's Mills, NY and Pittsfield, Mass. line descends.
I leave it to you to decide. For some references on the theory that Sarah & Lydia m. the same man, see: Mayflower Descendant(MD) 1:210-11; 2:179; 11:49-55,63,171,182-7; 14:235; 15:26,243-4; 16:85; 17:72; 22:93.
