Gerald Cline was a Police Officer for the City of Albuquerque in New Mexico. He served with the Police Force for 13 years. He died in the line of duty at age 36. He recieved a call to respond to a low-rent motel where a man was brandishing a gun, making threats. Officer Cline was the first Officer to arrive on the scene. He parked his Cruiser at the corner of the motel and began to walk on the sidewalk towards the room. Suddenly the suspect stepped out of the room and fired a round from a 30-30 Rifle point blank into Officer Cline's chest, killing him. A civilian used Officer Cline's Patrol Car radio to call for help and warn other responding officers of the dangerous suspect. The suspect was soon apprehended and sentenced to death during his trial. But his sentence was commuted to Life by the Govenor, prior to leaving office, after losing in a landslide defeat. Officer Cline was survived by his wife and three children.
