Tech. Sgt. Walter M. Moss of Houston, Texas joined the Air Force in 1990 after graduating from Aldine High School near Houston and served in Operation Desert Storm. He specialized in detecting and defusing makeshift bombs and always tried to protect the younger members of his team. He lived in Idaho with his wife and two children, a 13 year old son and a 9 year old daughter. He is the first Mountain Home airman to be killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was killed in the explosion of an improvised explosive device while conducting safing operations in the vicinity of Baghdad, Iraq at age 37.
