Matthew served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was a member of the Gittens-Leidel American Legion Post 595 of LaCrescent, MN.
Matt worked as a truck driver for Fruit acres in LaCrescent for many years. He also worked as a self-employed painter when the growing season was over in the orchards. He also tended bar at the American Legion Club for many years.
Matt was a member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ridgeway, MN.
Matt never married.
He was survived by 3 sisters, Mary Ann (Wilford) Wilson of Winona, Ada (Clarence) Wilson of Clinton, IA, and Anna (Helmer) Thompson of Caledonia, MN; 3 brothers, John Babler and Robert (Beverly) Babler both of Winona, and Charles (Birde) Hanson of Houston, MN; many nieces and nephews.
Matt was preceded in death by his parents; and 5 brothers, Ralph, Albert, William, and Richard Babler, and Henry Hanson.
