Bill Davis, 85, of Crawford, Texas, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2006, at his home. Funeral services will be 3 pm. Tuesday, March 21, at First Baptist Church of Crawford with the Rev. Mike Murphy and Jerry Walters officiating. Interment will follow in Crawford Cemetery under the direction of Cole Funeral Home in McGregor. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 20, at the funeral home.

Bill was born in McColloch, Texas, to the late Joe Dee and Minnie (Severs) Davis, and attended school in Coleman County, Texas. On December 3m, 1945, he married Bessie Lea Whiteley in Vernon, Texas. Bill served during World War II in the Rhineland, Central Europe and Ardennes and was decorated with the EAME Theater Ribbon with three bronze stars. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Crawford and enjoyed team roping and playing country music.

He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Wray Davis.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Bessie Davis, of Crawford; sons, Mike Davis and wife, Pam, Pat Davis, Buddy Davis and wife, Deborah, all of Crawford, David Davis and wife, Melissa, of Moody; daughters, Kathy Laufenberg and husband, John, of Crawford and Wanda McGrath and husband, Pete, of Red Oak; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Archie Davis and wife, Bobby, of Coleman; sister, Ovella Kirklin and husband, Gerald, of Brady; many other family members; and a host of friends.
