Services for Gertrude Kinnick Brideson


A memorial prayer service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday October 2 at the Bayard Methodist Church for Gertrude Kinnick Brideson.

Gertrude Kinnick Brideson passed away at her home in San Luis Obispo, Ca. Sunday September 25, 1988.

Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church in San Luis Obispo at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, 1988 with inurnment at Los Osos Valley Memorial Park.

Mary Gertrude Kinnick was born to Alonzo P. (Lon) and Jeanette Williams Kinnick at Coon Rapids on October 23, 1902. She was baptized at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Coon Rapids on September 13 and later became an active member of the church there. She attended school and graduated from the Coon Rapids High School. She attended Simpson College and taught rural schools in the area.

She was a member of several musical groups.

On December 20, 1921, she was married to Everett L. Brideson of Bayard at her parents home near Coon Rapids.

The young couple lived on the Brideson home farm, north and east of Bayard. It was named an Iowa Century Farm in Highland Township at the Iowa State Fair this year. In 1936, they moved into town but continued to farm. Gertrude was active in all church activities and the Bayard Federated Women's Club. They were the parents of two children.

In 1948, they moved to Sacramento, California. She was also active in the church groups there and service on the election board.

In 1972, they moved to San Luis Obispo in the Laguna Lake area.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; Paul H. and Robert H. Kinnick and one sister Lucile Herron of Coon Rapids.
