Frank Leroy Medlenka, only child of Frank Nicholas Medlenka and Rose Gertrude Seeley, was born at 1:10 P.M. on August 29, 1915 in Oakland, California. He attended Oakland Junior High School and graduated from Oakland High School on June 21, 1935. On January 16, 1937, Frank married Dorothy May Kelly (Ann Kelly on the marriage certificate) at the First Methodist Episcopal Church in Santa Cruz, California. Two children were born to this marriage; Beverly Claire on December 8, 1937 and Kenneth Robert on December 2, 1940. Unfortunately, Frank Leroy died within two months after the birth of his son, Kenneth Robert. His widow Dorothy, had no means of family or financial support and found it necessary to give up her children for adoption. When Frank Nicholas Medlenka found out about the pending adoption of his grandchildren, he tried to stop the proceedings but was unable to prevent Kenneth from being placed with a family. He was, however, able to obtain a court order making himself the guardian of his granddaughter, Beverly. Frank Leroy was employed in 1937 as a truck driver for Rapid Distributors and later, was a wheel wright by profession, working at a rim and wheel company. Frank owned a two door, yellow and maroon colored 1940 Stutz Bearcat sports car that was his first "love". He was a natural born mechanic and often worked in that occupation. His second "love" was his Indian motorcycle. He would often take his little daughter Beverly on long "bike" rides and even bought her a special outfit to wear during these trips. The beach in Santa Cruz, California was a popular place for Frank and his group of friends. They often teased him about his narrow chest that had a bony prominence in the center. Frank always liked to wear nice clothes and always had his trousers tailor-made. At one time, he and his father Frank Nicholas lived together near the Kilpatrick's bread bakery in Oakland. He would get up at 1 A.M. to go to the bakery and purchase several loaves of the hot bread then sit down and polish off as much as a loaf and a half, with butter and strawberry jam. The last part of Frank's life was spent at his home on 3844 Telegraph Avenue in Oakland, California. Frank died on January 26, 1941 from a heart attack at the age of 25. He was cremated on January 29, 1941 at the Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland and his ashes are located in the Santa Cruz Mausoleum- Columbarium at 1927 Ocean Street in Santa Cruz, California. They are placed in the family niche in the foyer, front entry of the building, along with those of his father, Frank Nicholas & his mother, Rose Gertrude Seeley Medlenka Johnson.
