U.S. Congressman. Born the son of U.S. Congressman Lyman Law, he graduated from Yale College in 1814, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1817 and commenced to practice law in Vincennes, Indiana. He served as prosecuting attorney of Vincennes, (1818-20) and as a member of the Indian State House of Representatives, (1824-25). He was again prosecuting attorney of Vincennes, (1825-28), judge of the seventh judicial circuit, (1830-31), receiver of the land office at Vincennes, (1838-42) and again judge of the seventh judicial circuit, (1844-50). Moving to Evansville, Indiana, in 1851, he invested in large tracts of land and was appointed by President Pierce, Federal Judge of the court of land claims, serving (1855-57). In 1861, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-seventh and Thirty-eighth Congresses, serving until 1865. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law until his death.
