CLOVER -- Mr. Charlie Brooks Neelands, 79, of 249 Cedarhurst Drive died Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia, N.C. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Paul Willey officiating. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery. A native of York County, Mr. Neelands was a son of the late Daniel A. Neelands and Bertha L. Wilson Neelands. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the liberation of the Philippines, and received two Bronze Stars. He was retired from Rock Hill Printing & Finishing and was a member of Clover Church of the Nazarene. He was the widower of Mready "Midge" Mitchell Neelands. Surviving are his son, Gary Brooks Neelands of Blacksburg; two daughters, Janice Brakefield of Bowling Green and Kimberly Burgett of Birmingham, Ala.; his sister, Jeannie Lynn Smith of Rock Hill; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Brian Keith Neelands. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and other times at the home.
