Platte De Alton Lyman was born on August 20, 1848 at Banks of Platte River Bank, Goshen County, Wyoming to Amasa Mason Lyman and Eliza Maria Partridge Smith.

Platte De Alton Lyman married Adelia Robison on May 18, 1867 at Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah. The nine children of Platte De Alton Lyman included; Lydia Lyman, Albert Robison Lyman (noted San Juan County historian), Eliza Adelia Lyman, Edward Partridge Lyman, Caroline Lyman, Mary Lyman, Platte De Alton Lyman, Lucretia Lyman and Evelyn Lyman.

Platte De Alton Lyman also married Annie Maud Clark on Sept. 25, 1879 at Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County Utah. Children of Platte De Alton Lyman and Annie Maud Clark included; one daughter, Emma Lyman.

He was a farmer, one of the original settlers in Bluff Utah. He was and a Hole-in-the Rock Pioneer, (1878-1880).

Platte De Alton Lyman died on Nov. 13, 1901 at Bluff, San Juan County, Utah. He was buried at Bluff Cemetery on Nov. 15, 1901.
