A private family service will be held for Theresa H. Ashley of McMinnville. The Rev. Max Schaefer of St. John Lutheran Church, McMinnville, will officiate. Interment will be in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.

Mrs. Ashley died July 12, 2000, in Willamette Valley Medical Center, McMinnville. She was 82.

She was born Jan. 23, 1918, in Croff, N.D., the daughter of Bill and Olga Olson Erickson. She spent her early childhood on a homestead in McKenzie County, N.D. When she was 7, she moved to Tioga, N.D., where she was raised. She attended schools in Ray, N.D., Temple, N.D., and Westbank County, and graduated from Tioga High School in 1934. She then moved to the West Coast.

She married James Franklin Rider. The couple moved to Arizona, and Mr. Rider died in 1945.

She and Robert Ashley were married in 1948.

Mrs. Ashley moved to Europe in 1964 and lived in Germany and Italy for five years. She returned to the United States and lived in Los Angeles briefly before moving to Running Springs, Calif. She lived there for 20 years and also lived at Camp Ranger. She moved to McMinnville in 1991 to be near her daughter. She enjoyed the outdoors and bird-watching.

While a resident of Running Springs, she was voted Woman of the Year. She was president of the Elks Ladies for three years and president of the Women's Club for two years. She was bird study chairman of the Garden Club for five years and also was active in other organizations.

Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Ashley-Goldsmith of McMinnville; three sisters, Ella Flaten and Mabel Haugen, both of Minot, N.D., and Eunice Engen of Brunswick, Ga.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She also was preceded in death by her second husband in 1994; and by two sisters and three brothers.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice, in care of Macy & Son Funeral Directors, 135 N.E. Evans St., McMinnville, OR 97128.
