On the night of April 12, a Fire Team from Company A in their assigned ambush position in Hieu Duc District heard some movement to their front. Challenging the shadowy figure, and not hearing any reply they fired and saw someone drop. They found a Caucasian male dressed in a white T shirt, utility trousers and tennis shoes. Searching the wounded man they discovered documentation identifying the individual as PFC David P. Anderson USMC. Evacuated for treatment to the Station Hospital NSA Da Nang he died enroute as a result of the gunshot wound he had sustained.
