She graduated from Grants Union High School in 1940 and from the College of St. Joseph of New Mexico in 1952, where she received a BS in Education. She then received a Master Teacher's Elementary Certificate from the College of St. Joseph on the Rio Grande.
She was an elementary teacher in public schools and on the reservation for 38 years. She also assisted her husband in running a cattle ranch until 1990.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Teodoro B "Ted" Arvizo; and her parents, Emilia and Eleuterio Chavez.
Survivors include her sons, Ted Arvizo Jr., Daniel "Buddy" Arvizo; sister, Connie Baca of Grants; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
