According to immigration and census records, Jick was probably born in 1887. He married Shee Wong at the age of 21 and migrated to the U.S. in 1916 aboard the S.S. Nippon Maru via Hawai'i. His wife joined him in 1921 and they settled in Stockton, where they are found in the 1930 census living on South Hunter Street with six children: Florence, Amy, Edna, Harry, Alice, and Walter Choi. He was the proprietor of a general store.
