Alonzo Salisbury holds an interesting place in Omaha's history. He had the honor of being the first official burial in Omaha. Originally from Vermont, he was a stagecoach driver when he came to town in 1855 and opened a mill shortly after his arrival. In 1856 Salisbury was elected to represent Douglas County in the lower house of the Nebraska territorial legislature.
