Helped Erect First House in Village, 56 Years Ago
William Thomas Fulford, 73 one of the founders of Cortez who helped erect the first house in the fishing village 56 years ago died at his home there Thursday afternoon, following an illness of A few days.
A son of the late David Fulford, of Gloucester, N.C. he was a member of the group of North Carolinians who came to this county in the 80s and founded Cortez, and he had following fishing almost his entire life.
Mr. Fulford was a charter member of the Church of Christ at Cortez which was organized a quarter century ago. His wife died several years ago. He is survived by two sons, Walter Fulford of Cortez and William Fulford of St. Petersburg (not legible)….. Anna Maria Beach; also 34 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Samuel and Marvin Fulford, North Carolina.
Funeral Services will be held at the Wakeman chapel Saturday afternoon at 2 oclock, conducted by Revs. R.E. Wright and J.E. Collins of the Church of Christ. The pallbearers will be William H, Leon and Howard Adams, Grey H. and Eugene Fulford, grandsons and J.B. Fulford, a nephew of the deceased. Burial will be in Palma Sola Cemetery.
