Arthur was the youngest of Frederick Clark/Laura Shoales Wales' eight children. His siblings were: Genora Wales Morefield, Edgar Wales, Adaresta Wales Farrar, Elton Wales, Eli Wales, Alice Wales Dunlap, and Walter Wales.
He married Reta Geneva Isham on 13 Apr 1883 in Elkhorn, Walworth Co., WI.
They were the parents of four children: Lulu Mary Abell, Herbert Joseph, Ruth Genora Welkos, and Burton Arthur Wales. They had eight grandchildren: Arthur Stephen Abell, Reta Olive Wales, Hilton Wales Welkos, Warren Danforth Welkos, Helen Reta Welkos Heckle, Darrell Eugene Wales, and Darlene Claire Wales Mentz.
He married Elizabeth Margaret Dunbar Dunlap in Aug 1918 in Walworth Co., WI.

MAYOR ARTHUR WALES SUCCUMBS TO HURTS IN FALL FROM LADDER
SUFFERS FRACTURED SKULL DEATH TAKES PLACE LATE ON SATURDAY
Elkhorn, June 9--- Mayor Arthur Wales, highly respected citizen of this city and county and serving his second term as mayor of Elkhorn, died Saturday afternoon from a fractured skull which he suffered Friday when he fell from a ladder at the home of his son, Burton. No one in Elkhorn was more generally liked than was Mayor Wales and his death caused mourning in all sections of the city.
Born in New York
Mr. Wales was born at Plymouth, Chenango county, New York, on April 12, 1857, and came to Walworth county with his parents when he was 7 years old. They settled on a farm in Geneva township and Mr. Wales spent most of his life there, coming to Elkhorn in 1915. He was married on September 13, 1883, to Reta Isham who died on January 17, 1916.
In August, 1918, he was married to Mrs. Elizabeth Dunlap, who died last August. He is survived by four children, Herbert, Burton, Mrs. Earl Abell and Mrs. Lee Welkos, all of Elkhorn, three grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. G. B. Dunlap and Mrs. T. W. Morefield, Elkhorn, two brothers, Walter Wales, Elkhorn, and Eli Wales, Long Beach, Cal. A sister, Mrs. John Farrar, died last February.
Made Mayor in 1920
After serving in local offices in Geneva and as alderman in Elkhorn for several years, Mr. Wales was first elected mayor in 1920. On the expiration of his term he refused renomination but was again elected this spring. He was a member of the Masonic lodge and a man of keen judgment and kindly disposition.
