Son of Absalom Martin and Nancy Wallis Martin. Husband of Alice Martin (married Feb 10 1890.) Father of Lena May, Georgia Emma, Marry Mae, John Bart, Guy Abe, and Arleva "Levie", and Emery. Lena May and Emery apparently died young, only five children survived to adulthood. Family members say they lost several children young and the children are buried at Crossroads, also.

In the photo, John is shown with his wife Alice, daughter Levie, sons Bart and Guy.

John injured his hand in a wheat thresher when he was a young man. Neighbors took him to the hospital in Cumming and doctors were about to amputate his hand. His father Absalom rushed by horse and buggy to the hospital and arrived just in time to stop them, saying he had seen worse injuries while he was in the war (Civil War) and they had healed. John's hand did heal and he had only a scar.

Cause of death: Pellagra
