Marjorie E. (Pierce) Barnes, age 87 of Sidney, IA passed away January 10, 2014 at the Ambassador in Sidney, IA. She was born November 23, 1926 to Cecil I. Pierce and Burtis M. (Newton) Pierce in Peru, NE. Marjorie married A.D. Barnes July 20, 1945 in Hiawatha, KS. They lived and farmed south of Sidney until moving into town in 1989.
Marjorie was a clerk at Hummel's Grocery Store in Sidney from 1958 to 1976. She was active in the Sidney United Methodist Church for many years. She made the soup for when the blood mobile was in town, made pies and worked in the church stand at the Rodeo. Marjorie kept track of church attendance, called UMW members for food donations and help for different events at the church. She was UMW President from 1993 through 1997 and was a member of the Legion Auxiliary for 41 years and served on the Auxiliary Rodeo Board Concessions Committee for 9 years.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, A.D. Barnes; daughter, Jackie in 1983; grandson, Timothy in 1974; and 2 brothers, Junior in 1989 and Gene in 1999. She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Ellen Blood and husband Clyde of Spirit Lake, ID; son, Cecil (Dean) Barnes and wife Debra of Hamburg, IA; 6 grandchildren, Scott Blood and wife Mindy of Spirit Lake, ID, Jeniece Pride and husband George of Queen Valley, AZ, Nikkol Johnson and husband Travis of Raymore, MO, Ronald Barnes of Raymore, MO, Robert Reed and wife Kim of Sidney, IA, and Jennifer McAllister and husband Jeremy of Farragut, IA; 11 great grandchildren, Hillari Roundy, Mikayla Blood, Heather Neu and husband Zach, Ashlea Reed, Blake Reed, Chase Reed, Elias Barnes, John Barnes, Dalton McAllister, Hayden Pride, and Allie Pride; 2 great great granddaughters, Palyn and Piper Neu; brother, Lewis Pierce and wife Elaine of Beaumont, TX; sister-in-law, Josephine Pierce of Beaver Lake, NE; numerous nieces, nephews many other relatives and friends.
Graveside services for the interment of ashes was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 at the Sidney Cemetery with Rev. Jan Phillips officiating. There was no viewing or visitations.
Memorials will go to the Sidney Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad or the Sidney United Faith Church. The Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney was in charge of arrangements.
