Theodore Alvord, 85, a former Emporian prominent in Kansas G.A.R. circles, died Tuesday afternoon at his apartment in the Kansan hotel at Topeka. Funeral services were to be this afternoon at the Wall-Diffenderfer mortuary in Topeka; internment will be in Pierce City, Mo.
Mr. Alvord served in the 68th Illinois Infantry during the Civil war. He lived in Emporia many years ago and was an authority on early Emporia and Lyon county history. Before moving to Topeka four years ago, he was practicing attorney at Pierce City.
He was department patriotic instructor of the Kansas G.A.R., was a member of the council of administration of the Kansas G.A.R. and was senior vice-commander of Lincoln Post No. 1 at Topeka.
