Robert Alan Anderson "Bob" -82, died Monday, December 23, 2013, from complications due to advanced Alzheimer's disease. He was born to Ila & Andrew Anderson June 24, 1931. He was born at home in Mt. Pleasant, UT., where his parents taught school & his Father was the Bishop. When Bob was 7 his parents moved the family to Dreggerton, now called East Carbon City, where his parents were both school teachers. His father occasionally worked in the mine at Sunnyside. Andrew & Ila opened a eatery where he served ice cream & she made & served homemade pies as a specialty. Andrew & Ila took Bob to Los Angeles, CA to tend Don, Bob's oldest brother, who had rode a bicycle from Dreggerton to Los Angeles to attend Dental school & had become very sick from pneumonia. Here his Mother had a boarding house for two years. His father went back to Sunnyside to continue his job as teacher. The family reunited in Dreggerton where Bob continued his education. His Mother was the English teacher & his father taught Bob's science classes.
Bob attended high school at Price where he academically excelled & played basketball. He also played clarinet in the school band but he said he wasn't a Glen Miller. Bob went to BYU & stayed in the old military barracks that were on campus. He loved school & all the social events. Bob was the Student body officer in charge of three dance locations on campus every weekend. He thrived on serving others & having fun doing so. After two years of BYU he joined the Air Force as an Officer. He became a pilot & served in the South Korean Air Force by special order to train their pilots to fly his kind of aircraft. He loved his experience in the Air Force & the opportunities he had to experience travel & again to play basketball while serving in Japan. He returned to BYU to complete his education where he met & married Cheri his first wife. They had 4 children; Wendy, Russ, Bonnie, & Dan. They moved their growing family to Carpenteria, CA where he was called to be Bishop of the Santa Barbara Ward. Bob & Cheri later divorced and Bob was called to be the singles activity chairman. He & his assistant organized & carried out back-packing trips for over 100 people, mostly women. That's what I call a dating pool! Six years later he married Marlane. She had a little daughter named Chani & then they had 2 children of their own, Melody & Kyle. Eventually they moved from northern CA to southern CA where Bob became part owner of Bullwinkle's Restaurant chain & carried the title of Market & Office Manager. They moved to St. George, UT after bob had a series of heart attacks & was supposed to retire and take it easy. Instead he decided to buy a business in the Red Cliffs mall, his store was called Sports Fanatics. He thrived on work and being productive. He was called to several church callings where he served faithfully. He and Marlane later divorced & in 1998 he met Donna Anderson who has 5 children, Leeann, Sheryl, Stephen, David, & Christian who was still in High School. Bob and Donna were married in 1999 and lived in Orem where Kyle joined them & he too attended high school with Chris. After Chris was called on a mission Bob & Donna moved to St. George where they lived, worked, & served. Bob was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2007. He will be sorely missed by a loving wife, three families of adult children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, ward members, extended family, and dear friends. Bob has left behind a legacy of service, industry, & kindness.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 30, 2013, at 11:00a.m., at the Bloomington Hills Stake Center on Brigham Rd., St. George, UT. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00 to 10:30a.m. Interment will follow at the Tonaquint Cemetery.
