Arthur LaRue Allen, 93, of Oneonta passed away on Monday December 23, 2013 at the AO Fox Memorial Hospital.

He was born September 5, 1920 in Caton, NY the son of Marion and Anna (Wheeler) Allen. He married Mary Jean Allen on October 11, 1941, and she predeceased him on July 28, 1993. In 1996, he married Mary Jane (Hendee) Crandall. A Navy veteran of World War II, LaRue served aboard the USS Essex in the Pacific Theater of operations. Following his return from the service, he and his father operated a machine shop in the Elmira area. In 1956, he started with IBM in Poughkeepsie, and later was transferred to their Federal Systems Division in Owego. He held several management positions during his 25 year career, and retired in 1981 as a project manager. Prior to moving to Oneonta in 1994, he lived in Vestal for a number of years. Following retirement, he moved permanently to his summer residence in Valois, NY, where he remained until moving to Oneonta in 1993. LaRue loved his home in Oneonta, as it bordered the Oneonta Country Club, where he was a member. Any time of the day or early evening you could find him practicing or playing golf in his back yard. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Oneonta American Legion Post 259, BPOE 1312, and the IBM Quarter Century Club.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Allen, currently residing at the Plains; his daughter, Valerie K. Allen of Oneonta; his grandchildren, Mary Michelle (Geoff) Brown of Raleigh, NC, and their children, Payton and Chandler, Kelly (Steve) Sebree of the Bahamas, Ann Marie Grummons of Fuquay Varina, NC, Michael Grummons of New York City, and Ginger (Michael) Aragones of Virginia Beach and their children, Natalie and Jordan. LaRue is also survived by his sons-in-law, Les Grummons of Oneonta, and Gary Reardon of Valois; his step daughters, Rhonda (Douglas) Willies of Oneonta, and their children, Deidre (Vincent) Berk, and Cheryl (Andrew) Fargher, and Mary Ellen (Mark) Lossi of Oneonta, and their children, Mark and Tina. He was predeceased by his daughter, Sharon A. Grummons in 2004.

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, January 17, 2014 at 10:15 AM in St. Mary's Church, 39 Walnut St., Oneonta with the Rev. David Mickiewicz, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery Emmons. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 1 Birchwood Dr. Oneonta, NY 13820.
