Juanita Lucille Black, 83, of Bedford, Ky., died Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at her residence.

She was born Nov. 9, 1921, in Trimble County, Ky., the daughter of Howard and Stella Garrett Staples. She cooked at the school and worked in the nursery at the Bedford Baptist Church for more than 40 years, and was a member of the church for more than 50 years. She attended the Semper Fidelis Class, and helped with the Trimble County Saddle Club. She also taught many young children sewing through the 4-H organization.

Surviving are four sons, Mike Gammons of the state of Washington, Steven Black of Bedford, Greg Black of Louisville, Ky., and Stanley Black of Owenton, Ky.; three daughters, Joyce Webster of Bedford, Brenda Griffith of California and Dena Weaver of Shelbyville, Ky.; two stepsons, David Black of Louisville and Danny Black of Bedford; five stepdaughters, Evelyn Atkinson of Louisville, Eula Mae Goetzinger of Louisville, Carolyn Hedden and Connie Horine, both of Shelbyville, Ky., and Nancy Connor of North Carolina; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy David Black; and one son, Dale Gammons.

Services will be at 2 p.m. EDT Monday at the Ransdell Funeral Home in Bedford, Ky., with burial in the Bedford IOOF Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. EDT Sunday; and from 9 a.m. EDT Monday until time of the service, at the funeral home.

She is survived by three daughters: Joyce Webster, Bedford; Brenda Griffith, California; Dena Weaver, Shelbyville; four sons: Mike Gammons, Washington; Steven Black, Bedford; Greg Black, Louisville; Stanley Black, Owenton; five stepdaughters: Evelyn Atkinson and Eula Mae Goetzinger, both of Louisville; Carolyn Hedden and Connie Horine, both of Shelbyville; Nancy Connor, North Carolina; two stepsons: David Black, Louisville and Danny Black, Bedford; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Daniel Black and one son, Dale Gammons.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, September 19 at Ransdell Funeral Home, Bedford. Rev. Mitchell Embry and Dr. Tom Wilkes officiated. Interment was in Bedford I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers were Ethan Adams and Kendra Gammons.

Pallbearers were Frankie Adams, Cory Black, Matthew Gammons, Buford Leach, Jon Dunlap, Maynard Scott and Aaron Perkinson.
