Charles Patrick "Charlie" Donnelly (1914–1937)was a Republican political activist/killed fighting/Spanish Civil War s/o Joseph and Rose Donnelly who were prosperous cattle breeders.

He was one of 8 children born to Joseph & Rose (6 boys/2 girls).
It was while attending Dublin University in Ireland that he began writing. A book called ,' The Life & Poems' authored by Charles was published in 1987 and is still available.

Following outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, Charles joined the International Brigades reaching Spain on 7 January 1937. He and his comrades were attached to the US Abraham Lincoln Battalion.

Charles' first major action was at the battle of Jarama, near Madrid, Spain, where he was promoted to the rank of Field Commander. On the 27 February 1937, he was killed in action and buried in an unmarked grave with his comrades
