"Z.M. Miller aged 74, well known and prominent Greenville citizen died in this city at 6:30 o'clock Sunday evening, following an illness of several months duration. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon from the Kavanaugh Methodist church by Rev. C.W. Hearon, pastor of the church, with burial in Forest Park Cemetery.
Mr. Miller was born in Pulaski, Giles County Tennessee, September 14th, 1853 where he spent his boyhood, coming to Texas with his parents in 1876. He lived near North Sabine. In 1877, he united in marriage to Miss Mary Rigney at Ben Franklin Texas. To this union were born the following children: W. N. Miller of this city; R. M. Miller of Porterville, Calif.; Robert Miller of Des Moines, Iowa; J. Bryan Miller, City Manager of Bryan Texas and Mrs. C.V. Foster of Lubbock, all of whom survive. His widow, one brother, Will B. Miller of Ben Franklin, and a sister, Mrs. Lou Ward of this city also survive him.
Following his marriage in 1877, Mr. Miller made his home in Ben Franklin for a number of years. The family left Ben Franklin in 1900 and moved to Roswell New Mexico for Mrs. Miller's health, she dying at that place in 1903. Mr. Miller returned to Ben Franklin where he engaged in the gin, mill and lumber business. He later married Miss Eunice Garrison. About 1917 Mr. Miller disposed of his interests at Ben Franklin and purchased a large tract of land in Gunter where he went to make his home. In 1920 he came to Greenville to be with his son, W.N. Miller, he had since made his home in Mineral Heights, conducting the Mineral Heights Realty interest.
He was an active member of the Methodist church since early young manhood and for many years served as Sunday school superintendent at Ben Franklin. Since removing to this city he has been active in the Kavanaugh church until ill health prevented.
He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and took an active interest in this work at all times and his death will leave a vacancy in the hearts of his friends that will be difficult to fill.
The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of their many friends in this hour of their grief."
