Betty was born to Russell Simonson and Frances Elizabeth Smith Davison. She graduated from Lynbrook High School and then attended Hofstra University. She became a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, following in the footsteps of her mother and aunts. Her National Number is 332121.
She married William Gleason Buckley on Oct. 12, 1940 at Bethany Congregational Church in East Rockaway, Long Island, NY. They moved shortly after to Cambridge, MA and stayed there until 1948.
Then they lived in Newington, CT on Golf St. until 1956.
Next, they moved to Rocky Hill, CT on the corner of Elm St. and Chapin Ave., and lived there until 1962.
In 1962, they bought a home on Old Route 79 in Madison, CT, and lived there until they found a home with acreage so they could have horses for the two youngest daughters. She and her husband lived in Westbrook, CT from about 1967 until her death.
She is the mother of seven children. Five are still living and the two who are deceased are William Gleason, Jr. (FAG # 55017129) and Nicholas David (FAG #12234746)
She was a member of Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution, League of Women Voters and some knitting groups. For several years, when her two youngest daughters were riding and showing horses, she was the secretary of the Connecticut Horse Show Association.
Her hobbies were spinning, weaving, knitting and sewing.
