George B. Carlson, 94, formerly of Norwood Street (Lakeside), died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005 in Bayshore Health Center. He was born on Aug. 5, 1910 in Sheriff Lake, Aitkin County, Minnesota to Israel and Margaret (Johnson) Carlson. George was a Duluth resident for over 65 years and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He married Laura A. Larson on March 7, 1942 in Duluth. He was a salesman for the former Bolton Swanby Company and Arrow Chevrolet for over 30 years. In earlier years, he was a welder for local shipyards and later at Reach All Manufacturing. He was a member of Duluth Gospel Tabernacle, where he was an usher and Sunday School teacher. George was an avid fisherman, spending many hours at Rice Lake with family and friends. He also enjoyed brook trout fishing, deer and bird hunting, was an amateur inventor and was an animated story teller, who had received awards from Dale Carnegie and Associates, Inc. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Laura; sisters, Edna Shakarian and Agnes Carlson; and a brother, Elmer Carlson. Survivors include his son, Kenneth (Stephanie Petersen) Carlson of Shorewood, Minn.; grandchildren, Laura (Fred Mayer) Carlson and Anna Carlson; great-grandchildren, Ethan Carlson, Elliot Mayer and Greta Carlson, all of Minneapolis; sisters, Esther Rody of Tacoma, Wash., Bernice (Noble) Skoog of Seattle, Wash., Mable Tallakson of Burbank, Cal. and Beatrice O'Brien of Tacoma; many nieces and nephews; and long time special friend, Elly French.
